At the May 22 Planning and Zoning Board meeting, city staff gave an update on previously raised concerns along the Boulevard of Champions, including lane markings, a U‑turn location near a funeral home entrance and a damaged canal area members described as a hazard.
Assistant Community Development Director Andrew Disbury told the board staff arranged new striping on the corridor and flagged signage and the U‑turn location for review by Public Works and Traffic Engineering, but he had no final response yet from traffic engineering. Board members and residents said drivers continue to make unsafe maneuvers and asked about a new metal sign that would depict permitted movements; Disbury said signage is controlled by traffic engineering as well.
Separately, board members recounted complaints from an HOA about a canal segment that has standing water, soft mud and animal activity; several speakers described raccoons and deep, soft mud that an adult dog once nearly sank into. Disbury said the canal concern was reported to the appropriate department and remains under review; no resolution was announced at the meeting.
Board members asked staff to keep the board apprised as Public Works, Traffic Engineering and any necessary contractors complete their reviews.
