The Planning and Zoning Board on May 22 recommended approval of a minor site plan amendment (SPR2502) allowing Walmart at 7900 West McNabb Road to build a 4,522‑square‑foot addition and a dedicated online order pickup area on the store’s west side.
Bowman Consulting presented the plans and told the board the change reuses existing paved areas (no increase in impervious area) and adds 14 parking spaces to the site, bringing the total on‑site parking well above the 729 spaces required in the site’s condition. The plan includes wayfinding signs for pickup traffic, an added pole light and wall lighting for the pickup zone, and new plantings including live oak, holly and cabbage palm.
Andrew Disbury, assistant community development director, said the rooftop and interior remodel work has been coordinated with staff and that the expansion is consistent with the store’s original 2012 site plan. The packet contained 11 standard staff conditions the applicant agreed to satisfy.
Board member Barbara Thomas moved to approve the site plan amendment with staff recommendations; the motion passed unanimously with Vice Chair Barbara Thomas, Board member Ramgulam, Board member Mann, Board member Celeste McGill and Chair McKay voting yes. Staff noted signage modifications or separate sign permits may be processed administratively if required.
Applicant representatives said the pickup area is intended to improve customer service for online orders and to consolidate existing ad hoc pickup activity now conducted near the garden center.
