Newark Partnership outlines summer events, mural plans and nonprofit programs

Ali DeAngelis, interim executive director of the Newark Partnership (the city’s primary downtown/Main Street–type organization), briefed Newark City Council Monday on recent activities and upcoming events.
DeAngelis said the mural committee will meet monthly to advance plans for a Library Avenue mural and bridge abutment artwork, and reported that the New London veteran banner designs will be unveiled during the city’s Juneteenth celebration at the George Wilson Center. She said the partnership coordinated its “Knowing Newark” nonprofit showcase at the Newark Farmers Market on May 25 — attended by roughly 870 people — and will hold another nonprofit grant-writing workshop on Thursday with Michelle Neath of the SPCA delivering the session.
DeAngelis also noted that the Newark Partnership is planning the Winterfest artisan market and that the group’s Winterfest planning meeting with the city is scheduled for the next day. She encouraged council participation in committee meetings and said the partnership has begun outreach to businesses that host murals to ask about artists and vendors.
Members of the public and council thanked the Newark Partnership for events coordination; Director Ennis (city staff) confirmed Winterfest is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 5 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
No formal council action was taken; DeAngelis asked members to connect with the partnership on outreach and volunteer coordination.
