Mayor Eric L. Johnson outlines public safety, permitting and homelessness priorities in 2025 inauguration address

At the 2025 Dallas City Council inauguration at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center, Mayor Eric L. Johnson used his address to set public safety, permitting reform and homelessness reduction as the council’s top priorities.

Johnson framed those items as responses to voters’ recent charter amendments and a need for a more efficient city government. He said residents voted in November to impose stricter term limits, reject council pay raises and press for “more police officers,” and he said the council must respond by focusing on service delivery and public safety rather than “new programs” or special-interest efforts.
