New hangar owners seek 20-foot depth expansion; board raises permitting and FAA-clearance points

Board members heard from the airport manager that the recently sold southernmost east‑facing hangar on Flight Line 1—owned by Andy Checketts and Corey Gaethje—requested permission to expand the hangar deeper by about 20 feet to fit two airplanes.
Manager Bob said he and John walked the site and recommended the buyers obtain Logan City building and zoning approval first; the buyers reported Logan City indicated firewalls could be grandfathered in that section but they must comply with inspection and permitting requirements. The board discussed proximity to adjacent hangars and the need for one-hour firewalls when walls come closer together.
Airport staff member Judd reminded the board that any building expansion or new construction on the airport requires FAA Form 7460 airspace clearance and environmental review because the FAA treats such work as a new building for airspace purposes. The board raised no formal objection to the proposal but confirmed that any approved expansion would change the tenant’s lease and require continued permitting and inspections with Logan City.
The manager said the space the owners want to use is largely unused and the owners plan interior refurbishment, insulation and drywalling to improve aesthetics. Board members instructed staff to continue coordinating with applicants and city permitting as needed.
