Cash AirFest scheduled for late June; organizers describe program and volunteer needs

Professor Baron, representing the AirFest organizing group and Utah State University’s aviation program, gave a detailed update on the upcoming Cash AirFest. He said the event will begin Friday with a training and education summit on the USU campus, including seminars, hands-on rotor-pathway and rusty-pilot sessions. Baron said summit registration will be low-cost and will include lunch and parking.
Friday evening will include a reception on the ramp with live music, an awards event, and youth art-contest recognition; Baron said leading-edge sponsors will provide flights for winning youth. He described Saturday’s full day (ramp and abandoned runway use) with static displays including historic B-17 and B-25 aircraft, career and STEM exhibits in a large hangar, shuttle service from an abandoned runway, food trucks, and aerial performances (including local performers such as Brad Wursten and Red Thunder). The airport ramp will be closed from 10:00 to 15:00 for aerial demonstrations; organizers expect cleanup complete by 17:00 the same day.
Baron said the FAA has approved the event as an official air show and reiterated the request for publicity, volunteers (including Civil Air Patrol and scouts), and potential sponsorships to help cover costs such as trash and porta-potties. He also noted logistical permits for some activities, including helicopter operations on the USU quad, are handled through university risk management and FAA permitting.
Board members asked about registration and poster distribution; Baron said QR codes for registration and the art contest will be circulated and that final volunteer coordination will meet immediately after the board meeting.
