Sawyer County committee approves two recreational events on county forest lands

The Sawyer County Land, Water and Forest Resource Committee approved two recreation events on county forest lands at its June 1, 2025 meeting: a Tricky Trot paddle triathlon and the City Lions Club's annual mountain-bike 'prefat' race.
County staff reviewed a course map for the Tricky Trot paddle triathlon and reported the event organizers provided required insurance and that the course did not intersect other recreational trails. A staff member recommended approval and the committee voted to approve the event on a voice vote.
Ned Zielstorf, race director and representative of the City Lions Club, told the committee the 'prefat' race is scheduled for Aug. 23 and will be limited to 300 riders. "This will be our 29th year. It's actually the largest fundraiser we have every year for the City Lions, which allows us to carry out numerous community projects," Zielstorf said. The race uses forest roads and singletrack within Sawyer County Forest boundaries, beginning and ending at the Berkey trailhead. The committee approved the race on a voice vote.
Both approvals were recorded by voice vote; no roll-call tallies were provided in the meeting minutes.
