A staff presenter told the committee the jail’s average daily population for May was 55 inmates — 12 females and 43 males. The presenter said the jail had an average of 18 inmates on probation incarceration, 19 on pre-sentence incarceration and 18 sentenced inmates; five people were on electronic monitoring. The presenter also reported that the unemployment rate at time of booking for the month was 83 percent.
Committee members briefly discussed the JusticePoint report and recovery-court outreach. Members said they wanted to publicize sober activities and community outreach so participants in recovery court have prosocial options and know where to find donations and supports. Bruce Paquette said the committee should move beyond receiving reports and “tackle some problems” and suggested collective prioritization of a few projects, using anonymous input from members.
Judge Elaine Smith asked committee members to spell out MOUD in the resolution discussion; the judge clarified that MOUD stands for medications for opioid use disorder.
No formal action was taken on jail staffing or operations during the meeting. Committee members asked whether follow-up questions about the jail data could be directed to Lt. Mike Waller or jail staff at a future meeting.
