Chippewa County board elects Jason Bergeron vice chair; fills executive committee vacancy

The board opened nominations for vice chair after a short procedural review. Supervisor Flater nominated Jason Bergeron; Supervisor Shoebridge nominated Supervisor Joel Seidlitz. Both nominees were given the opportunity to speak at the podium. Bergeron introduced himself as a District 7 supervisor and described his community volunteer work and commitment to public service. Seidlitz said he would represent taxpayers’ voices and encouraged collaboration among supervisors.
Ballots were collected by volunteers and read aloud by the clerk. The clerk reported that Seidlitz received five votes and Bergeron received 13 votes, constituting a majority of ballots cast. The chair declared Bergeron elected vice chair and seated him accordingly.
The board then filled an at-large seat on the executive committee. After three rounds of secret-ballot voting—during which several ballots were ruled invalid because they lacked a signature or district—the clerk reported that Supervisor Bomar received the plurality needed and was declared elected to the executive committee. The clerk noted 18 supervisors were present for roll call and that some ballots were invalid; the final round produced 10 votes for Bomar and 8 for Lotz.
The chair said the board will revisit committee assignments at the next meeting to reflect the new membership on the executive committee and to ensure compliance with committee composition requirements.
