Nevada Board of Examiners approves $29.3 million in salary adjustments and multiple contingency allocations

CARSON CITY — The State of Nevada Board of Examiners on June 10 approved $29,346,883 in salary adjustments for state agencies and a series of contingency and reimbursement requests affecting multiple departments.
The board, convened by Governor Joe Lombardo, voted to allocate the funds during its public meeting; the motion to approve the salary disbursements was placed on the record and carried by voice vote. The board also approved recommendations to forward several contingency allocations to the Interim Finance Committee (IFC) and authorized reimbursements from the statutory contingency account to the Office of the Secretary of State.
The salary action (agenda item 10) covered 23 requests (items a through w). The board’s staff said items a through r request funds for salary increases totaling $29,346,883; the board noted an amended line-item change reducing a listed amount from $146,471 to $143,801. The agenda also included requests for sworn-position funding (items s through u) totaling $4,126,515 and a $120,562 total for a plan to encourage continuity of service (items cited as part of the package). The board approved the package with the amended figure.
Separately (agenda item 7, taken together), the board recommended that the IFC consider allocations from the contingency account for five requests. Those included a $753,500 allocation requested by the Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Public and Behavioral Health to fund payment of sanctions imposed by the Second Judicial Court in Washoe County; a request from the Nevada Highway Patrol for an allocation to cover costs associated with dignitary protection (amount on the record read as approximately $227,107.01); a request from the Office of the Attorney General for $56,488 to cover dignitary-protection costs for the attorney general; and a $151,954 request from the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Division of State Lands, to replenish a land-management revolving account. A separate request from the Department of Veterans Services to cover shortfalls in personnel services, Fernley Cemetery and information services was presented without a specific dollar figure on the record.
The board approved two requests from the Office of the Secretary of State (agenda item 8): $55,658 from the statutory contingency account to pay for county clerk and city clerk elections-procedures training, and $465,144 to reimburse counties for publication costs related to the 2024 general election.
Most items on these agendas drew little or no discussion during the meeting. Board members indicated no questions on the salary package and related contingency requests; the motions were carried by voice vote with members responding “aye.”
The board’s approvals implement allocations the governor’s finance office and agencies requested under statutes cited on the record, including provisions of the Nevada Revised Statutes referenced during presentations.
The board closed the meeting after a routine series of remaining agenda items and an opportunity for public comment during which no members of the public spoke.
