Percy Julian relocation moving; Park Crossing field house, South Lawn gym progress reported

District facilities and program managers updated the board on construction and capital projects, reporting contractors are mobilized on several high‑profile school projects and that major milestones and inspections are coming in the months ahead.
Laura Penn Volker (project oversight) told the board that phase 1 of the Percy Julian High School relocation off Old Todd Road is about 69% complete and that the city planning commission approved the dedication of new Todd Road last month. She said a project vacation packet is expected to go before City Council next Tuesday. Preconstruction for the new campus (phase 2) kicked off May 22; the owner’s notice to proceed was scheduled to be issued on the 16th of the month and substantial completion for the new campus is anticipated in December 2027, Volker said.
Volker also reported demolition and site clearing are underway, including removal of a residence and barn on the site, and that the general contractor has staked property lines and begun clearing and grubbing.
On athletics and secondary facilities, the Park Crossing field house project is in final cleanup with punch‑list work in progress; staff said the state inspection was scheduled for the 18th of the month. Interior graphics and locker‑room work were shown in photos presented to the board. The Park Crossing turf and track replacement is complete pending paint and striping weather windows.
Chad Anderson in facilities said the South Lawn Middle School gym addition is approximately 68% complete with roof installation and primer/paint in progress. The immediate goal is to get the building fully enclosed and indoor systems running so above‑ceiling inspections can proceed. Anderson said the district is monitoring MBEDBE participation reporting and expects a notable increase next month following the large Percy Julian contract purchase order.
Other items noted: contractors requested alternative materials on storefront work at Morning View to avoid panel lead times; the Carver High School track/turf work uncovered subsurface conditions that will require a change order; and roof designs for Forest Avenue and South Lawn Elementary continue to move through design and DCM for approvals.
What’s next: staff said inspections and punch lists will proceed in June and July, and the Percy Julian campus contractor schedule targets major milestone dates through 2027. The board was shown interior images and status photos for the projects discussed.
