South Kingstown committee recognizes retirees, teachers and names Augusta Hazard scholarship winners

At its June meeting the South Kingstown School Committee held staff recognitions and announced recipients of the Augusta Hazard scholarships.
Principals and assistant principals recognized staff retirements and awards. Highlights from presentations included a tribute to Julie Marola, a school social worker at Matunich Elementary; a retirement recognition for school nurse Sharon Pine (noted for 24 years as a school nurse and a 2023 Rhode Island school nurse of the year honor); and district recognitions for teacher finalists and award winners including Kate Bubrick (presidential award finalist and district teacher of the year) and Brandon Pierce (Rhode Island civics teacher of the year). Assistants and principals who presented included Elizabeth (Liz) McGuire (Matunich Elementary), Gina Haberland (Broad Rock Middle School) and Angela Christina (South Kingstown High School).
The committee also announced the anonymous Augusta Hazard scholarship recipients for the Class of 2025: Sophie Alberino, Abigail Babugian, Talia Fuller, Matilda Sofiantino, Nolan Orian, Emma Walsh and Hope Holy. The committee noted the awards had been presented at honors night; committee members who formed the selection panel reviewed anonymized applications and confirmed the winners.
Committee members applauded the honorees and expressed thanks for their service.
