Erie City School District staff reviewed the proposed 2025-26 budget and told the committee of the whole the draft includes a modest change to the homestead exclusion per parcel and does not raise property tax rates.
"I just wanted to point out that there were 2 changes. 1 was to the homestead exclusion per parcel was slightly reduced from the last time we met. It went from 29,000 to about 28,000," a district staff member said while summarizing the budget packet. The presenter also told the board, "there is no tax increase as we discussed." The board was offered paper copies and online access to the budget packet.
Board members discussed timing for finalizing the budget adoption. Mr. Harkins advised waiting to set a budget adoption date until the state budget is resolved: "I still think it's in our best interest hold off on having a budget auction date for the last week of the month until we see what, where they are." Ms. Devlin said legislative action in Harrisburg may be delayed and that a partial or late state budget could take time to resolve.
No formal vote was recorded during the committee discussion. Staff said they are available to answer questions about the packet and will provide materials on request.
