Roxbury board approves finance package; district to apply for DOJ COPS grant and addresses water‑damage repairs

The Roxbury Township School District Board of Education on June 9 approved its finance resolutions and heard updates from the business administrator on facilities and grant activity.
Business Administrator reported a burst pipe at Eisenhower Middle School discovered the morning of the meeting that left about two inches of water in multiple rooms. Maintenance contained standing water within roughly an hour, but damage included saturated sheetrock in recently renovated areas. The administrator said he will likely invoke an emergency purchase to contract disaster‑recovery work and that the district’s insurer has been notified.
Finance agenda item 12 is the planned submission of a Department of Justice COPS (Community Oriented Policing Services) grant. District staff said they will request funding for 50 Motorola radios plus additional repeaters for every school and an upgrade to the district’s building access system. The board approved the full set of finance resolutions (items 1–40) by roll‑call vote during the meeting.
The business administrator also reported that state‑funded emergency generators recently installed at district sites were tested and are operational: two at Lincoln Roosevelt, one at Franklin School and two at central office. The district described the generator installations as complete and tested.
Separately, a solar‑power contract that had been previously awarded is now on hold. The administrator said the awarded contractor sought contract changes that substantially altered the project specifications and then delayed performance; district counsel is now advising the board on next steps. The administrator characterized the solar effort as "stopped" pending legal guidance.
The finance and facilities summary included two settlement agreements for board approval; those agreements were placed on the consent agenda and included in the approved resolutions. The board also discussed seeking new facilities usage and inventory software after a vendor consolidation affected an existing product.
No specific dollar amounts for the emergency repairs were available at the meeting; the administrator said cost estimates from the disaster recovery contractor were pending and that insurance and warranty coverage would be pursued.
The board’s approval of the finance package clears the way for grant submission and for staff to proceed with emergency procurement steps required to repair water damage and preserve affected facilities.
