The Town of Hubbardston Parks Commission discussed several maintenance and cleanup items June 11, including removal of an unused can-collection bin, clearing stored items under the bandstand and progress on a proposed ADA walking track grant.
Parks Commission member Jesse Alexander said a Westminster Pack cub scout offered to help remove a can-collection bin that is not in use and lacks upkeep. "He was gonna just check with their troop or the group and make sure that's what they all wanted to do. And then, maybe we can set up a some time to have them come and just dispose of it," Alexander said.
Commissioners also spoke about items stored beneath the bandstand and asked the Lions Club to review and remove items they use for field day. Alexander said he would contact Kelly Ann, the Lions' president, and commissioners agreed to set a deadline for removal. After discussion the group settled on an early-July timeline: "So let's say by mid July, July to tenth... July 1? I think that's fine," Alexander said. Commissioners said they would follow up if items remain after that timeframe.
On civic improvements, Alexander said the commission remains in contact with town staff about pursuing an ADA grant for a walking track; photographs have been taken and the commission is awaiting further information, and members noted the grant cycle typically begins in January.
Commissioners also reported they have Memorial Day banners on hand and asked for volunteers to hang them on the bandstand and Clark's Corner to prepare for July 4 festivities.
What’s next: Parks commissioners will follow up with the Lions' president about clearing stored items by early July, coordinate with the cub scouts on removal of the can bin, and check in with town staff on next steps for the ADA walking-track grant.
