The Town of Hubbardston Parks Commission approved a field-use request for an all-day festival on Oct. 11 and continued planning for a community event the commission has called the Hubbardston Summer Social.
Parks Commission member Jesse Alexander said the commission received a field-usage request from Katie Young of the town's Celebrations group for an Oct. 11 event and that he had approved the request. "So she had given us a request for October 11. It's, an all day event on the eleventh... I have approved it," Alexander said during the June 11 meeting.
The festival will include bands, food trucks and family attractions. Commission members discussed vendor commitments and on-site attractions: the Green Sisters are booked to play; Maddie's ice cream truck will attend; Moon Hill Brewing submitted paperwork for a one-day pour license to sell beer on site; Agronomy (a local winery) expressed interest and was expected to submit paperwork; and local vendors mentioned included Giacomo's and Curious Cravings. The commission also discussed partnering with food-truck organizers.
Organizers have booked a bounce house for the event for $161.50; commissioners agreed to move forward with the booking. Parks Commission member Jessica Hall and other commissioners discussed operational details including supervision, limits on the number of children simultaneously using the bounce house, and the possibility of charging a small fee or wristband (one suggested model was a $5 wristband) to raise funds for parks. Alexander said the commission would provide reimbursement paperwork for anyone who pays up front for event expenses.
The Parks Commission also noted modest recent fundraising: the senior center collected $95.75 in donations for townwide yard-sale maps and the group plans to place the Mass Cultural Council sponsor language on promotional materials as required.
The commission said it will finalize and circulate an event flyer and continue collecting vendor paperwork; organizers asked members to review the draft for any edits before public posting.
What’s next: staff and volunteers will follow up with vendors and finish paperwork for any vendor requiring a one-day liquor license; the Parks Commission will reconvene on logistics and supervision for the bounce house and other attractions prior to the event.
