Black Mountain proclaims Juneteenth and June as Pride Month

The Town of Black Mountain council on Monday adopted two ceremonial resolutions: a proclamation designating June 19, 2025, as Juneteenth and a separate resolution recognizing June 2025 as Pride Month.
The Juneteenth resolution recounts the Emancipation Proclamation, the ratification of the 13th Amendment and the June 19, 1865, order by Union forces in Galveston, Texas, and calls on residents and institutions to observe the history and heritage of African Americans. The council passed the resolution by unanimous voice vote.
The council also adopted a resolution recognizing June as Pride Month, citing the 1969 Stonewall uprising in Greenwich Village and the town’s prior resolution, R‑25‑18, affirming that all are welcome regardless of sexual orientation, gender, race, religion or other characteristics. A councilmember identified as “Alice” presented that resolution; the council voted unanimously to adopt it.
