Wayne County committee chair seeks update after veterans director leaves county

WAYNE COUNTY, Mich. — Chair Kanesick of the Wayne County Committee on Seniors and Veterans Affairs said on June 11 he learned through Facebook that Director Randy Walker is no longer with Wayne County and said the committee will schedule further meetings to clarify how veterans services will continue.

Kanesick raised the matter during the meeting’s public-comment portion, saying he had expected Walker to return with an update on state veterans funding and program continuity. ‘‘I learned through Facebook, unfortunately, the other day that, director Walker is no longer with the county,’’ Kanesick said. He added he would ‘‘plan to hold another committee meeting here at some point’’ and would coordinate with the administration to request a formal update if necessary.

No county official provided an on-the-record explanation for Walker’s departure during the meeting, and committee members did not take formal action. Kanesick said he was seeking clearer communication about follow-up and ‘‘understanding how veteran services are gonna continue to be carried out here in the county, in the absence of having a director in that spot.’’ He said he would ‘‘file with more folks offline’’ and may submit a formal request to the administration for information or a briefing.

The chair’s remarks were procedural and did not direct specific staff actions during the meeting. The committee did not set a date for the follow-up meeting during the session.
