The Thousand Oaks City Council presented a proclamation recognizing June 2025 as LGBTQ+ Pride Month and acknowledged local nonprofit Unity Conejo for its work supporting queer youth.
Mayor David Newman invited Megan Goble, founder and executive director of Unity Conejo, to the podium and presented the proclamation. Goble described Unity Conejo’s programs and priorities: supporting, educating and celebrating queer youth, running a large annual “pride picnic” (she said nearly 650 people attended on June 1), and plans to start a mobile closet to provide gender-affirming clothing and other community programs.
In his remarks before presenting the proclamation, the mayor said the council “reaffirms every year” a principle that gender identity and expression are private and that the city seeks to build “a welcoming community where everyone belongs.” Goble said Unity Conejo’s work is focused on youth outreach, education and community-building and thanked the council for the recognition.
The council invited Unity Conejo members to join the dais for a photo after the proclamation.
