The Edmond City Council approved two land‑use items June 9: a partial closing of an electric easement at 9333 East 30th Street and a zoning map amendment converting a 5.6‑acre parcel north of Second Street at Mountain View Lane from GA (General Agriculture) to R‑2A (Suburban Estate District).
Staff said Edmond Electric relocated facilities that made a portion of the easement unnecessary; engineering staff raised no objection, and the planning commission recommended approval 5–0. A council member moved approval and the ordinance passed 5–0.
On the rezoning, staff told the council the R‑2A district allows single‑family detached dwellings with large setbacks and a minimum lot size of 60,000 square feet. The applicant’s representative told the planning commission they intend to split the parcel into three roughly 1.8‑acre lots. The planning commission recommended approval at its June 15 hearing by a 5–0 vote and the council approved the zoning change 5–0 after brief public comment from a family member of the property owner, who said they intend to build single‑family homes and preserve trees.
Both actions were approved following public hearings and carry standard conditions and next steps under city procedures.
