The Biscayne Bay Watershed Management Advisory Board elected Commissioner Mickey Steinberg as its new chair during a public meeting.
A motion was made to appoint Commissioner Steinberg and a voice vote was held. "All in favor of electing Commissioner Steinberg as the new chair of the Biscayne Bay Watershed Management Advisory Board, say aye," the clerk asked; members responded "Aye" and the motion passed, with no recorded opposition.
Board members and staff used the appointment to thank outgoing Commissioner Cohen Higgins for her service. Vice Chair Mayor Vince Lago led the initial portion of the meeting and passed the gavel after the vote. Steinberg thanked colleagues and noted she looks forward to working with the board.
The meeting also introduced two newly appointed members: Jim Murley, representing the Miami River Commission, and Sam Marcuseo (listed as Sam Acurcio in roll call), who represents the Dade Agricultural Board and previously served on the South Florida Water Management District board. Both offered brief remarks after being introduced.
No formal amendments to board governance were adopted at the time of the vote. The appointment was recorded as passed in the meeting minutes.
Ending
Steinberg will preside over subsequent agendas and technical briefings, including a planned return of RAP consultants for a more technical presentation at a future meeting.
