The Waco City Council voted on June 3 to approve an ordinance on first reading adding the honorary name "Ernesto Fraga Street" to the portion of 20 Ninth Street between Dutton Avenue and Spade Avenue.
Staff noted that the change is honorary only and will not alter the official street name used for mailing or addresses; residents and businesses will not need to change addresses. The Planning Commission recommended approval by an 8–0 vote on May 27. There were no public speakers on the item at the council meeting.
The motion to approve on first reading passed by roll-call vote with Council Members Fairfield, Lozano, Porter Root, Ewing, Chase and Holmes all voting yes.
