The Nevada Community School District Board of Education voted to adopt policy edits recommended by the Iowa Association of School Boards to align district policy with Senate File 418.
Administrators explained the change removes "gender identity" from the list of protected classes in district policies where required and substitutes references to "equity coordinator" with "Title IX coordinator." Administration said full removal of any policies was not required; the edits are limited to language changes to conform to state law.
Board members asked when the updated policies would be posted; administration said the changes should be live by the end of the week and that updates must be in place by July 1. The board moved to waive a second reading because the edits were required by law and adopted the changes in a single action.
