Board recognizes Athena Award recipients, employee-excellence winners and several retirees

Supervisor Abe Koga presented Athena Awards to community leaders, including Olga Mello (recognized for two decades of community leadership in Mountain View and founding the Mountain View Community Action Team) and Sarah Townsend Hanley (recognized for local civic and arts work). The board also recognized multiple employee-excellence award recipients from county departments and presented retirement commendations to long-serving county employees: Mary Ritter (38 years, pediatric forensic medicine and children's advocacy work at Valley Medical Center/Child Advocacy Center), Gina (Regina) Alcomendres (25 years; Clerk-Recorder leadership and innovations including online wedding services), and Muhua (Muwa) Cheng (29 years; finance agency, controller-treasurer department). Speakers praised the retirees’ professional contributions, mentorship and program-building work.
Mary Ritter spoke about choosing to remain through the county’s development of a children's advocacy center and called county support “wonderful.” Gina Alcomendres reflected on her career and thanked colleagues and family; Muhua Cheng briefly thanked the county. The board invited colleagues and teams to join the retirees at the dais for photographs.
