The Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors proclaimed June 12 as Philippines Independence Day in Santa Clara County and recognized the Filipino American Employees Association for its cultural and civic activities.
Supervisor Cindy Young read the proclamation noting the 127th anniversary of Philippine independence from Spanish colonial rule (1898). The board highlighted the Filipino American Employees Association’s membership of about 258 active and retired county employees and its community activities including Philippine American History Month events and fundraising for the Kith Foundation and CHI Foundation. Arnold Pedrigal, founder of the association, accepted the proclamation and invited county employees and residents to upcoming events: a Jeepney Jam on June 6 (4:30 p.m.–9 p.m., Garden at the Flea) and a flag-raising ceremony on June 13 at 5:30 p.m. at McAtee Plaza.
