The Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors proclaimed June 13 as Family Reunification Day and heard remarks about the county’s child-welfare reunification efforts.
Supervisor Lee described reunification as the preferred outcome for children in foster care and praised the collaboration among courts, social workers, attorneys, service providers and resource families that make reunification possible. Wendy Kinnear, interim director of the Department of Family and Children Services (DFCS), said the department would honor five families on June 13 for completing the reunification process and highlighted reunification as a complex effort involving services for substance use, mental health, housing and related supports.
The board reaffirmed its commitment to promoting safe and stable family outcomes and thanked the courts, advocacy organizations and county staff who support reunification work.
