Supervisors heard three community-enhancement proposals from Supervisor Gomez that the board may consider in a future consent or action agenda.
Supervisor Gomez described a request to fund design and construction of a flag pavilion at Camp Naco to honor Buffalo Soldiers and provide a flag-raising display; Gomez called the site an important local historical attraction and encouraged fellow supervisors to tour the facility. The proposal would fund concrete, a flagpole, flags and lighting to support daily flag displays.
Gomez also told the board that Sierra Vista would sponsor a Boys & Girls Club for Douglas; she proposed redirecting previously allocated community enhancement funds to a Douglas Boys & Girls Club endowment rather than other uses. Gomez said she would bring that item back on a future agenda (June 17 was mentioned).
Finally, Gomez described a proposal for a summer basketball program in Douglas to support two leagues for middle- and high-school students, co-sponsored with the city and a local organizing team to provide supervised activities during summer months.
Board members voiced support and encouraged site visits; no formal action was taken in the work session.
