Board proclaims Juneteenth; recognizes African American Community Service Agency and Juneteenth in the Street festival

The Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors issued a proclamation recognizing Juneteenth and commended the African American Community Service Agency (AACSA) for its role in local Juneteenth celebrations and cultural preservation.
The board described Juneteenth as the commemoration of June 19, 1865, when formerly enslaved people in Texas were informed of emancipation; the board noted 2025 as the 160th anniversary of that enforcement. Supervisors encouraged county residents to attend the AACSA’s Juneteenth in the Street Festival in San Jose’s SoFA (South of First Avenue) district, which the board described as the county’s longest-running local African American cultural festival. Vice President Sylvia Arenas emphasized AACSA’s work on racial equity and health disparities.
Representatives from AACSA, including Milan Jeremiah La Revere, accepted the proclamation and invited the public to the festival and related events that celebrate and preserve African American history and culture in Santa Clara County.
