Twinbrook volunteer Dawn Saimon receives Carl Henn Environmental Excellence Award for daily litter removal

The Rockville Environment Commission presented the Carl Henn Environmental Excellence Award to Dawn Saimon on June 2, recognizing 18 years of daily litter pickup in the Twinbrook neighborhood.
A presenter from the Environment Commission said Saimon walks a path behind the Twinbrook Community Recreation Center to Rockcrest Park nearly every day — "the only days that she doesn't go out is when it's raining or snowing" — removing trash and recycling what she can. The presenter said Saimon's work preserves habitat for local animals and improves neighborhood safety and appearance.
The presenter told the council that Saimon recently received the Twinbrook Community Association’s "Twinbrookian of the Year" recognition and that the nomination for the Carl Henn award came from Jen (transcribed as both "Jen Hawes" and later "Jen Haas") of the Environment Commission. Saimon accepted onstage and said, "Thank you. Thank you."
The commission said Saimon's example illustrates the impact regular volunteer stewardship can have on local parks and neighborhoods.
