Skagit Transit asks for $750,000 toward new maintenance and admin facility at the port

Stidham said the existing facility is in a floodplain and that phase-one work completed in 2024 allowed the project to advance. She reported that the agency has secured about $36 million in awards to date and that updated design work has raised the estimated total for phases 2 and 3 to about $46 million. Skagit Transit is seeking $750,000 from the county to help fill a remaining $1 million-to-$2 million funding gap; she noted the agency also has $10 million in reserves available.
Skagit Transit said the new facility at the port will consolidate staff now scattered across multiple leased spaces, support the agency—s long-range plan and accommodate an anticipated increase of about 40 full-time employees in the next four years. Stidham also cited broader economic benefits, including expected construction employment and ancillary jobs tied to improved transit service.
