Custer County authorized to apply for CDPHE rebate grant to support recycling center operations

Custer County commissioners voted May 27 to authorize staff to submit an application for a CDPHE rebate grant for recycling operations.
County staff told the board the rebate grant can be used for capital improvements or operations at the county’s recycling/waste diversion center, including maintenance, well capping or drilling where needed. Staff described the funding as a rebate grant rather than a matching grant.
Tim Harmon, the recycling coordinator referenced in the meeting, was not present; staff said Harmon is nearly finished with the application and requested authority to submit by the end of the month. The board approved the motion to allow Harmon to apply.
Public commenters included volunteers and supporters who praised local recycling efforts. The board stressed continued volunteer involvement and asked that any awarded funds be used in keeping with CDPHE’s rebate-grant rules.
Staff said the county has received this rebate in prior years but not last year; the current application is for the final year of the CDPHE program cited by staff. The grant application deadline was noted as near the end of the month.
