The amendment, filed by Richfield Township trustees as case Z34C37, would add advanced manufacturing as a conditional use in a defined portion of the Central Avenue Overlay. Lisa Sobekki, planning staff, told the commission the panel’s recommendation is advisory and that “in the end, it’s the township’s decision whether they would approve the text amendment.”
Why it matters: Residents and local officials said the change could open farmland to large industrial uses such as data centers, and they sought more time to review maps and the proposed text. Several speakers said notice was short and that the hearing was scheduled just after the Memorial Day weekend when many farmers were unavailable.
