Calaveras supervisors approve 3.39% CalWaste rate increase for 2025–26

The Calaveras County Board of Supervisors voted May 27 to adopt a resolution accepting a 3.39% rate increase proposed by CalWaste for contract year 2025–26. Under the change, the county’s monthly 35-gallon trash cart charge will rise by $1.04 to $31.77; the 65-gallon cart will rise by $2.25 to $68.60; and the 95-gallon cart will rise by $3.75 to $114.09.
The increase was presented by Jennifer Cashey, director of Integrated Waste Management, who said the adjustment is allowed under the county’s contract with CalWaste and that, if the board rejected the increase, the 02/2016 contract would require the county to compensate CalWaste for the difference. Cashey said that potential county compensation was projected at $239,261.
CalWaste representative Casey Macarezza told the board the company now serves about 8,276 residential customers in the county, up from roughly 4,000 when the company first took the contract. Macarezza said CalWaste paid $211,735 in franchise fees and about $232,926 in recycling reimbursements to the county in the prior year, figures he described as totaling roughly $444,661.
Supervisor Follendorf noted CalWaste representatives were present and invited the company to speak. Following the presentations, a motion to adopt the resolution passed on a 4-0-1 vote.
The resolution directs staff to implement the revised rates for contract year 2025–26 under the existing CalWaste agreement.
