District proposes higher facility use fees, one‑year OIA contract to respond to rising utilities and operations costs

Mr. Gordon, who presented the item, said utilities, custodial supplies and other operational costs have increased significantly and recommended raising facility use fees. He explained the OIA contract covers large, district‑wide users of gyms, fields and practice spaces. The recommended one‑year OIA contract references the district’s facility use fee schedule rather than mirroring a fixed rate; the change preserves the district’s ability to raise fees between contract cycles if operating costs rise.
Why it matters: higher per‑use fees affect booster clubs, youth sports organizations and large external renters. The district said maintaining flexibility in the OIA contract will allow multi‑year tenant arrangements without locking the district into rates that could be quickly outpaced by utility or custodial cost increases.
The presentation was included in the superintendent consent slate later in the meeting; the board approved the consent slate that included facility use fee updates and the OIA contract.
