The Lakewood Planning Commission voted on May 21 to postpone election of officers until its next regular meeting, citing recent membership changes and upcoming city council appointments.
The commission is currently down to five members from its normal seven after recent departures: former commissioner Kip Kolkmeier resigned when a pending move changed his residency and former commissioner Bill Fuhrman left after election to City Council. Under the commission's rules, the vice chair stepped into the chair role and an election for vice chair is required at the commission's next regular meeting, unless the commission decides to delay until new members are appointed.
During the May 21 meeting, Commissioner Williams moved to table the election of a vice chair until the next meeting; the motion was seconded and passed on a roll-call vote where Commissioners Buckley, Greg Lewinis, O'Neil, Overall and Williams voted yes.
The action ensures that the commission's officer slate will be reconsidered after city council conducts interviews and (likely) appoints two new members. The commission will hold officer elections at a subsequent meeting when a full complement of members may be present.
Ending
The vote to table was procedural; the commission will add officer elections to the next meeting agenda and resume the process after council's appointments are final.
