Superintendent: NJLA testing underway; concerts, awards and summer facility upgrades planned

Superintendent Weldon told the Township of Ocean School District board at its May 20 work session that NJLA testing is underway across district schools and praised students for preparing and doing their best.
"Don't stress, but do your best," Weldon told students. She listed upcoming events: the Leona Burke Worth math awards (tomorrow at the TOYS cafeteria at 6:30 p.m.), a seventh- and eighth-grade choir concert on May 28 at TOIS at 7 p.m., a PTA boys dance on May 29, and a Students-vs.-Staff volleyball game on May 29 at TYS. She also reminded the community that all district schools are closed Monday, May 26, in observance of Memorial Day and noted a larger recognition event at 8 p.m. to honor students and staff achievements.
On facilities, the school business administrator and superintendent described planned summer projects that include installing new bleachers at Ocean Elementary, replacing the gym floor at the intermediate school, security upgrades, new equipment for the high school cafeteria and upgrades to the auditorium lights and sound system. Staff said these projects are planned to take place over the summer months.
Weldon offered no policy proposals in the report and the board did not take a vote on any items mentioned in her remarks during the work session.
