At the May 20 meeting the county’s Chief Financial Officer briefed the Board of Supervisors on the results of the annual audit. The CFO said the county released the audit by the March 31 deadline and that the report showed clear improvement from the prior year.
“Overall, I would say yes, this was a very good audit,” the CFO told the board. He said auditors reported one finding, compared with four findings in the prior year, and that staff corrected the single finding during the audit process. The CFO described the issue as a transaction that had been recorded in the wrong fiscal year; auditors noted the effect on fund balance and staff corrected the entry in the financial system.
Supervisor Allen asked the CFO to summarize the outcome for the public; the CFO said the county was “getting our financial house in order” and committed to continuing improvements in internal controls and timely reporting.
Separate but related: Supervisor Barajas recused herself from several consent items connected to Rise Incorporated (items 9, 19 and 33) after consulting with county counsel; item 19 was part of the consent agenda that the board approved later in the meeting.
