D205 honors York FCCLA state medalists and Presidential Award finalist Abby Swighton

The Elmhurst Board recognized York Community High School FCCLA competitors who won 16 gold and 14 silver medals at the state conference and named teacher Abby Swighton as a Presidential Award finalist in mathematics during the May 20 meeting.
At the May 20 Elmhurst Community Unit School District 205 Board of Education meeting, the board recognized York Community High School students who placed at the FCCLA state leadership conference and presented a board proclamation honoring a Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching finalist from Jackson Elementary.
Katie Nirocki and Jenna Callan introduced York FCCLA competitors from the 2024–25 season and described the competitive events, including culinary arts, event management, cake decorating, charcuterie, focus on children, preschool lessons, fashion construction and interior design. The board proclamation listed 16 gold- and 14 silver-medalists and said nine students qualified for the National FCCLA Leadership Conference in Orlando.
Named advancing students included Alice Moyle, April Vero, Mackenzie Sipanek, Madeline Cresnak, Ada Duell, Sienna Kleinberg, Lucy Savage, Madeline Boleski, Madeline Brooks, Maison Jungles, Lily Zermal, Tara Freund, Nora Heflin, Sophie Follin, Grace Jensen and Anne Heflin. The board congratulated the students and their advisors.
The meeting also recognized Abby Swighton (listed as a Jackson Elementary nominee), who the board said was a state-level finalist for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching after a rigorous application process. Dr. Krista Rajnun, principal of Jackson Elementary, introduced Swighton and highlighted the award's national significance and application requirements.
Board members congratulated the students, staff and families and wished those advancing to national competition success in Orlando.
