Indianapolis Public Library CEO Gregory Hill presented highlights from the system’s annual report and gave trustees an update on programs, branch visits, cardholders and partnerships. Marion McKenzie (strategic‑plan lead) delivered an early, quarter‑one briefing on how key performance indicators (KPIs) will be reported under the library’s new strategic plan.
Hill told trustees that the system’s typical April day included about 13,526 physical circulations and 7,119 visitors; he noted systemwide annual figures in the board packet (including total circulation and program participation) and thanked staff for recent accomplishments such as completing the Central Engraving Project and adding accessibility collections and playaway devices. Hill presented the system’s spring program and branch visit trends and acknowledged Library Foundation support; the Foundation contributed more than $255,000 in the period cited to support programs and discretionary funds.
Trustees used the CEO report to publicly commend staff. One trustee read a statement praising Hill’s leadership, improvements in labor relations and recent pay increases arrived at through discussions involving the union and management.
Marion McKenzie provided a preview of a strategic-plan dashboard built around priorities of well‑being, learning and belonging. She said the dashboard will report relative change and include visual cues (colored arrows) to highlight significant movement versus the previous quarter and versus 2024 baselines. Early KPIs cited in the presentation included high positive response rates on program surveys (about 93–95% positive on selected questions) and mixed short‑ and long‑term trends on measures such as people‑count per capita, web traffic and circulation per active cardholder. McKenzie said the dashboard will provide the board a concise view of where to probe further in subsequent reports.
Trustees asked questions and urged the administration to continue public communication of early‑literacy work and other community-facing programs. No formal board action was taken on the strategic metrics preview.
