Brunswick County 4‑H introduces 2025 youth council to commissioners

Jamie Lester, the Brunswick County 4‑H agent, introduced the Brunswick County 2025 Youth Council to the Board of Commissioners on May 19 and described the council’s goals and planned activities for the year.
Lester told commissioners the youth council grew from active 4‑H club officers who wanted to take leadership roles. The council is intended to help young people develop leadership skills, communication and group‑process competencies, relationship building, planning and organization, diversity assessment and service‑learning experience. Members will have opportunities to hold officer positions, participate in district, state and national events and plan community service projects.
Lester said some council members were not able to attend the meeting because of other commitments; the group attending introduced themselves to the board and posed briefly for a photo. Commissioners welcomed the youth council and encouraged them to stay involved.
No formal action was required for the presentation; commissioners thanked the group for participating and staff will work with the youth council on future engagement opportunities.
