Commissioners voted to ask council to direct city staff to determine, within 90 days, what emergency funds would be needed to address losses from the NEA cancellations and to ask council members to pursue sources for those funds. The commission also heard more than a dozen public comments from artists and nonprofit leaders warning that proposed changes to Thrive, Elevate and Nexus grants could cut off small and mid-size cultural organizations.
