Councilwoman Fox used her presentation time at Monday’s Woonsocket City Council meeting to promote several local environmental and community events and initiatives, including a family fishing trip on July 18 and follow-up activities to the city’s recent Earth Day event.
Fox said the fishing event will take place Friday, July 18, at 5:30 p.m. at Sycamore Landing (100 New River Road, Lincoln), with fishing poles, bait and transportation provided by the Friends of the Winasquotucket River Watershed Council. "This is open to everyone in the city of families, children," Fox said, and asked attendees to RSVP to her city council email (fox02895@gmail.com) so organizers can plan transportation and supplies.
She thanked about 20 people who attended an April Earth Day meet-up at the library and said the follow-up events will include conversations about community gardens, Little Free Libraries, energy savings and beautification projects. Fox encouraged property owners such as churches or social clubs with unused space to consider hosting a raised-bed community garden and offered to connect volunteers who want to help maintain gardens.
Fox also said she’s rescheduling an upcoming meeting originally planned for this week to a June date and that updates about Tree City USA initiatives and new Little Free Libraries will be shared at that meeting.
Ending: Fox invited council members and residents to the July 18 event and encouraged anyone with space or interest in community gardening to contact her via the council website email.
