Board opposes Assembly Bill 225 to reduce cosmetology training hours after schools and instructors testify

Tricia Faust, a longtime instructor and licensed aesthetician, told the board deregulation would do “an extreme disservice to the students and the public.” Campus directors and school owners from other institutions made similar statements emphasizing sanitation, infection control, and clinical experience.
Board members asked staff questions and then discussed options including support, oppose, remain neutral, or no action. After public testimony, Board member Woldt stated opposition and Board member O’Brien voiced the same position. A motion to oppose Assembly Bill 225 was made and seconded and carried on a voice vote with no recorded opposition in the transcript.
The board also gave the public direction on how to submit written comments to staff; staff said the board would accept emailed comments by 5 p.m. the same day. The board’s formal position (opposition) will be reflected in letters to the legislature once the board’s staff finalizes the language.
