BPW adopts preliminary Barrett Law resolution to fund 2025 sidewalk repairs for eight properties

The Evansville Board of Public Works on May 22 approved a preliminary resolution under the Barrett Law to fund the 2025 Barrett Law Sidewalk Project Repairs, listing eight participating properties.
City engineering staff presented the resolution and said it includes administrative steps required by the Barrett Law process. "I think, this year we have, 8 participating properties in this," Mr. Wah, a city engineering representative, told the board.
Board members discussed financing mechanics. Engineering staff said a lien is placed against participating properties and the usual financing option spreads the property’s half of the sidewalk cost over 10 years at 0% interest, with the annual charge prorated on property taxes.
The board moved, seconded and approved the preliminary resolution by voice vote. Staff indicated the item will return to the board for additional administrative steps required by the process, and that more formal documentation will follow.
