Parks staff gave a series of operational updates at the May meeting of the Eagan Advisory Parks Commission, reporting a recent membership high of about 4,500, completion of in‑house playground installations, a newly built fishing pier at Blackhawk Park and an opening date for the splash pad on May 23.
“We're about 4,500 members,” a parks staff presenter said while describing membership packages; staff added that roughly half of those members are through insurance‑based programs. The department noted that despite construction at the Eagan Community Center, membership and programming remain active.
Staff described a small in‑house capital program that installs playgrounds (saving an estimated $30,000–$50,000 per site compared with contracting the work) and noted a recent playground relocation from Goat Hill to Lexington Diffley Park so the Goat Hill project could proceed.
A fishing pier built by in‑house crews was flagged as a recent accomplishment at Blackhawk Park; staff said erosion and wildlife (muskrats) occasionally require repairs and maintenance to pier assets.
The department also highlighted community programming: sold‑out “puppy yoga” sessions, summer registration activity, and an indoor playground replacement expected to have more play levels and a 20‑plus year lifespan. The splash pad’s May 23 opening was announced as the season’s first water amenity opening.
Staff said pool and staff training for summer programs will begin in early June and invited commissioners to visit and take tours when facilities open.
