Lindon City Council recognizes local youth for service and leadership

At a recent Lindon City Council meeting, council members and staff recognized several local young people for community service and leadership, reading nomination letters and presenting acknowledgments.

Council members read a three-page handwritten nomination describing Maxwell Johnson’s work caring for animals, helping neighbors and volunteering on his family’s farm; the letter’s author praised his reliability, neighborly visits and goal-setting. Council members also announced a separate nomination for Yvonneh Gleeson for her sustained participation in Lindon’s youth council, including serving as deputy mayor of the youth council and representing the city at an interscholastic mock legislative debate at the Utah State Capitol.

The recognitions were presented as part of the council’s routine acknowledgments. A council speaker said the nomination for Johnson described daily farm chores, animal care and neighborly assistance, and another speaker noted Gleeson’s leadership, attendance and role training other youth in parliamentary procedure.

Leaders and staff emphasized youth involvement as a community priority. Jamie (staff member) and council advisors LaDawn and Sharon were acknowledged for supporting the youth council. The mayor and other speakers praised the nominees’ contributions and presented them with keepsakes for the city’s memory book.

No formal votes, directives, or policy actions accompanied the presentations; the item was a ceremonial recognition on the meeting agenda.

The council’s remarks placed the recognitions in a broader effort to highlight youth civic engagement and volunteerism in Lindon.
