The Town of North Berwick Select Board voted June 3 to transfer $13,410 from the town’s emergency fund to cover a deficit in the fire department budget, the board's meeting minutes show.
Town Manager Dwayne Moreington said last fiscal year the town returned unspent fire department funds to the general fund because ordered hose had not been delivered before year-end; the hose subsequently arrived. In addition, Moreington said three firefighters recently completed training and the department needs to purchase uniforms for the new members, creating a $13,410 shortfall.
Moreington recommended covering the deficit from the emergency fund. The board moved, seconded and approved the transfer 5-0.
Moreington also said the town will receive FEMA funds related to an April storm; the incoming reimbursement will partly replenish the Woodrow Highway Fund and allocate amounts to public works and the fire department once the town completes paperwork for closeout and administrative-cost reimbursement.
