Jill, director of Carbon County Children and Youth Services, joined the meeting remotely and thanked the commissioners, saying she could not attend in person because she was at a conference. “But again, I really appreciate the commissioners taking the time to acknowledge our staff, our 13 caseworkers, ranging from 20 of service to 4 months of service and anything in between. And I really do appreciate every day they show up with a smile on their face. They go out, and they help children and families and put their best effort forward. Sometimes it is a dangerous situation. They're knocking on doors,” Jill said.
Commissioners praised the work and the personal risk the job can entail. Commissioner Arner said of the work, “It's probably the worst job in Carbon County, but it's the most rewarding.” Another commissioner noted that caseworkers sometimes enter homes with police and encounter hazards ranging from poor housing conditions to drugs.
The proclamation text presented at the meeting lists the county’s reasons for the recognition, including the staff’s training in laws and legal processes and their efforts to enable children to remain safely in or return to their homes when appropriate. The board presented the signed proclamation to the Children and Youth office; Jill indicated she would share it with staff.
