Commissioner Probst told staff the letter was “very thoughtful, very well informed” and requested minor typographical and wording edits, including adding a plural "s" to the word "standard(s)" in a paragraph on the community wildfire protection plan and removing the word "ironically" from a sentence he recommended replace with "inevitably." Staff confirmed the typographical edits and the removal of "ironically." The board also discussed the use of the acronym “GTR” in the letter in place of "resort."
County staff said the draft is the product of multiple board and staff revisions; Chair Newcomb thanked staff and noted regional praise for the letter. Commissioners acknowledged correspondence received from Grand Targhee Resort (via a June letter and an attorney's email); board members said the resort's submissions stated there were inaccuracies but did not specify the alleged errors. The county will include the resort's correspondence in the board's July correspondence report.
After final review, Commissioner Probst moved to approve the letter from the Teton County Board of County Commissioners dated June 16 to the Caribou‑Targhee National Forest Supervisor Pearson with the three revisions discussed; a second was recorded and the motion carried unanimously.
The board recorded the letter as a cooperating‑agency comment on the DEIS. No formal change to county code or land‑use law was made at this meeting; the action was a comment on a federal draft environmental document.
The county clerk will publish the letter and add the Grand Targhee Resort correspondence to the July correspondence packet for public access.
