Overland Park council proclaims Juneteenth and Pride Month, reappoints racial-profiling advisory board member and approves consent agenda

The Overland Park City Council issued ceremonial proclamations, approved a reappointment to an advisory board and approved the consent agenda during its June 16 meeting.

Mayor Kurt Skoog read a proclamation declaring June 19, 2025, as Juneteenth in Overland Park and urged residents to honor the day. A separate proclamation declaring June 2025 as Pride Month (referred to in the staff proclamation language as “Bridal Month/Pride Month”) was also read; the proclamation invited the community to recognize LGBTQ+ residents and promote inclusion.

The council moved to approve the reappointment to the Independent Citizens Advisory Board for Racial Profiling and Non-Biased Policing; the motion received a second and was adopted by voice vote. The council also approved the consent agenda by voice vote; the clerk’s roll call recorded unanimous approval for consent items.

The council later voted to recess into an executive session for 45 minutes to conduct preliminary discussions on the acquisition of real property for a public facility (the motion referenced state statute language in the motion as "KSA 75 43 19 b 6"). The council announced no binding action would be taken during the executive session and returned to adjourn without taking additional new-business votes.
